UK interview tips

An interview is a conversation. It is not a job offer. Arrive a few minutes early. If it is a video call, test the link and sit somewhere quiet.

Employers often ask what you did in your last job, why you want this one, and when you can start. Answer with examples. Short and clear is better than long.

You can ask questions too. Good ones: what the hours are, who you report to, what the first month looks like, and whether the job is permanent or temporary. You can ask them to speak more slowly.

Bring the right-to-work document they asked for, if you have it. Do not bring cash for the interviewer. Do not pay for a uniform before you have a written offer.

If you do not get the job, it is allowed to ask for feedback. Then look at the next role. One interview is not the whole market.
